BRAHMS, Johannes
Sonata for clarinet and piano in E flat major op. 120 no. 2
II. Allegro appassionato
Pascal Moraguès, professor
Pablo Tirado Villaescusa, student
Patricia Araúzo Rodríguez, accompanying pianist
Prof. Pascal Moraguès begins the masterclass talking about acoustics and tuning. It is necessary to be very expressive without losing tuning: clarinetist works the beginning slowly to adjust each pitch with the piano.
Moraguès gives some indications to play with the character, phrasing and energy required for each musical line, using correctly the tongue. Besides, he asks the student for playing in front of an imaginary public.
Afterwards, he makes some comments on dynamics, "energico" and "appassionato" sound. The professor also proposes fingerings for several passages, and he makes other suggestions about articulation, phrasing, music direction and sound projection on the "sostenuto" part. Moreover, the student must play with more focus and pressure.
