SCHUMANN, Robert
Symphony no. 2 in C major op. 61
II. Scherzo. Allegro vivace
Pablo Heras-Casado, guest conductor
Orquesta Sinfónica Freixenet de la Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía
Pablo Heras-Casado corrects aspects of articulation, dynamics and phrasing of the second movement of Symphony no. 2 by Schumann. The character of the movement must always be very bright, and the articulation should help to find that dynamism. It is necessary to keep the tempo without slowing down because that makes losing brightness. The articulation is established by the first violins and the other instruments listen to and follow them as in chamber music. They work the spiccato of the strings, which is the articulation that keeps the spirit of the movement. Heras-Casado insists on the coda, which rehearses in depth, and take up the beginning of the movement maintaining the same energy and tempo.
