SCHUMANN, Robert
Adagio and Allegro for horn and piano in A flat major op. 70 (transcription for viola and piano)
I. Adagio
Antoine Tamestit, guest professor
Guillermo Gil García, student
Juan Barahona, accompanying pianist
At the beginning, Professor Tamestit comments aspects of sound and posture with the instrument. This is an original piece for horn, so the first phrase is in one breathing, that does not require frequent bow changes. The posture of the body should be as skiing, suspended, and keeping the viola up but relaxed, without getting blocked. Tamestit suggests the student to start up-bow and corrects some aspects related to the movement of the arm and the contact with the strings.
