Encounter of Santander
Praised for his technique and rich palette, Luis Fernando Pérez is regarded as one of the most exceptional musicians of his generation and “The Renaissance of Spanish Piano” (Le Monde). After studying with Dimitri Bashkirov and Galina Egyazarova at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, he continued his training with Pierre Laurent Aimard at the Hochschule in Cologne and Alicia de Larrocha at the Marshall Academy in Barcelona. He has attended masterclasses from numerous renowned artists, including Leon Fleisher, Andras Schiff, Bruno-Leonardo Gelber, and Menahem Pressler.
He has collaborated with many prestigious orchestras, such as the Spanish National Orchestra, the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, and the Filharmonia Baltycka Orchestra, performing under the baton of acclaimed conductors like Georges Tchitchinadze, Ros Marbá, Kazuki Yamada, Jesús López Cobos, and Jean-Jacques Kantorow.
A regular guest at festivals like La Roque d’Anthéron, Bilbao’s Musika-Música, the Richter Festival (Tours), the Granada International Festival, the San Sebastian Quincena, and the Santander International Festival, he also collaborates frequently with the Casals Quartet, Ardeo Quartet, and Modigliani Quartet.
Despite his youth, his discography is extensive and has garnered widespread acclaim. All his albums have been recognized as “exceptional” by Scherzo magazine. His recording of Iberia earned him the Albéniz Medal and is considered “The Fourth Legendary Iberia” by Gramophone magazine (alongside recordings by Alicia de Larrocha, Esteban Sánchez, and Rafael Orozco). His recording of Granados' Goyescas, released on the French label Mirare, received the Diapason d’Or and the “Choc of the Year” award from Classica magazine. He recently recorded an album dedicated to Federico Mompou (FFFF rating by Télérama and 5 stars from Diapason), and is currently working on his next recording project.
Alongside his busy concert schedule, he is deeply dedicated to teaching at the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska and the Marshall Academy (following in the footsteps of his mentor, Alicia de Larrocha). He also teaches in the Piano and Chamber Music Master's programs at the Conservatorio Superior de Aragón and serves as a Guest Professor at Senzoku University (Tokyo). From the 2024-2025 academic year, he is also the Artistic Director of the Santander Encounter of Music and Academy, alongside Márta Gulyás.
