Jordi Francés

Francés develops an interesting activity characterised by a wide look on the artistic happening. As conductor, he lives between opera, the symphonic repertoire and the current creation. Among his most recent commitments are invitations from the National Orchestra of Spain, Teatro Real, Palau de les Arts de Valencia, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, the Community of Madrid Orchestra, Navarra Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Valencia, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, Principado de Asturias Symphony Orchestra, etc., as well as several projects with the Sonido Extremo Ensemble, of which he is artistic director. He has also conducted the BBC Phil., RTVE Orchestra, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, and many other ensembles in Europe and America.

Very interested also in contemporary creation, he has led world premiers of over 100 works and worked with: Birtwistle, Eötvös, Haas, Manoury, Gervasoni, Sotelo, López-López, Sánchez-Verdú, Camarero, Torres, Ibarrondo, Río-Pareja, Magrané, and García-Tomás, among many others. His closeness to the world of Opera is developed by the hand of Josep Pons, of which he was assistant from 2015 at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. He made his debut at the Teatro Real in 2016 and currently maintains a fruitful relationship with theatre, where he has conducted: the absolute premier of the opera Tránsito by J. Torres, P.Glass’ Orphèe, R. Strauss’ Arabella, and has other titles confirmed for future seasons.

During the past decade, Jordi Francés has also developed an interesting educational focus to work with young musicians. Under this prism, Jordi has worked with some of the most important educational music institutions in the country: JONDE, the Reina Sofía School of Music, JORCAM, ESMUC, JONC, JOGV, etc.

He has a Bachelor’s Degree from the Hogeschool Zuyd in Maastricht (Netherlands), has a postgraduate in Contemporary Repertoire from the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Switzerland and a Master’s Degree in Musicology from the Universidad de la Rioja. His very wide training as conductor includes residencies at the Manhattan School of Music, the International Järvi Academy in Estonia, the Eötvös Foundation in Budapest and the IRCAM in Paris with professors such as Kurt Masur, Paavo Järvi and Peter Eötvös.
