Spanish violinist Carla Marrero Martínez is distinguished by her profound musicality and brilliant technique. She has performed renowned concertos such as those by Brahms and Schumann at prestigious venues including the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the National Auditorium of Madrid, and the KKL in Lucerne. She regularly collaborates with Anne-Sophie Mutter in her ensemble, Mutter’s Virtuosi, and has performed alongside musicians such as Gidon Kremer, Christian Tetzlaff, and Steven Isserlis.
Her talent has been recognized through numerous international awards, such as the Young Jury Prize and a Special Prize at the Karol Lipinski Competition (2024), first prize and the Special Orchestra Prize at the "Villa de Llanes" Violin Competition (2017), and second prize with two special prizes at the Mirecourt Competition (2016). She has also received the Manfred Grommek Prize (2021) and the Ana Chumachenco Prize (2017) from the Kronberg Academy.
In addition to her successful career as a performer, Marrero Martínez has excelled in the academic field, combining her stage experience with teaching. She is currently a violin and contemporary music lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar, and, starting in December 2024, she will serve as deputy professor of viola at the Prof. Diemut Poppen Chair at the Reina Sofía School of Music.
Her dedication to music is complemented by a solid academic background under the guidance of renowned teachers. She studied violin with Ana Chumachenco at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, graduating with honors, and viola with Diemut Poppen at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. She completed her Konzertexamen with the highest distinction at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar under the guidance of Friedemann Eichhorn.
She plays a violin by J. B. Vuillaume, generously loaned by the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, and a viola by Fernando Solar.
