The Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and the Reina Sofía School of Music sign a collaboration agreement for the training of young conductors

Madrid, 12 December 2024.- The Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS) and the Reina Sofía School of Music have signed a collaboration agreement to promote the training and development of students from the School’s Conducting Department.

Thanks to this agreement, the four students of the “Zubin Mehta” Conducting Department at the School, accompanied by their head professor, Maestro Nicolás Pasquet, will undertake internships with the BOS in May 2025. This experience will allow them to enrich their learning on stage, working with a professional orchestra and enhancing the work they do in the School’s classrooms.

The School’s Conducting Department, supported by Aline Foriel-Destezet, began its journey in the current 2024-2025 academic year, offering a Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Orchestra Conducting Studies. The programme focuses on a practical approach as one of its fundamental pillars. To this end, the School has established agreements with prestigious Spanish and European orchestras, enabling students to gain experience in a fully professional environment. The presence of students and faculty during these internships is made possible thanks to the support of the Banco Sabadell Foundation.

With the signing of this agreement, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra joins a high-level project. Collaborating with an institution as prestigious as the Reina Sofía School of Music strengthens the orchestra’s commitment to training future music professionals in a framework of musical excellence.
