Joaquín Arias


Born in Madrid in 1995 he has studied in the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía since 2016, first in Zakhar Brons class and, starting in 2019 until 2021, in Diemut Poppens Viola class. During those years, he enjoyed Consejería de Educación y Juventud de la Comunidad de Madrid and Fundación Albéniz scholarships. 

He started his violin studies with Sergio Castro and Anna Baget in Madrid. He has received masterclasses from Benedicte Palko, Andoni Mercero, Stephan Picard, Kennedy Moretti, Anne Landa, Vera Martínez Mehner, Mimi Zweig, Daniel Dodds, Aitor Hevia, Cibrán Sierra, Ana Valderrama, Vicente Huerta, Predrag Katanic y los cuartetos Quiroga y Casals. 

He has won the second prize in the Villa de Llanes International Competition. He has played as a soloist with Spanish Radio Symphony orchestra, the Adolfo Salazar conservatory symphonic orchestra and the Llanes summer course string orchestra. He was also selected to play as a soloist with the Musikene symphonic orchestra of the Pais Vasco music conservator. 

He has participated in festivals such as Música Musika of Bilbao, Quincena Musical of San Sebastián in several occasions, along with Musethica festival, the International Quartet academy in Vic, MUSEG Segovia, Úbeda festival and others.  

In 2019 he won the first prize at the Intercentros Melómano competition, organized by the Orfeo fundation.          

In 2020 he won a position in Euskadiko Orkestra, and in 2021 in the National Orchestra of Spain, were he currently works.He plays a Germain Trumpf viola made in 2021. 

His performances cover a large part of the Spanish geography, part of Europe, the United States and Cuba. As an orchestra soloist he has performed alongside conductors such as Albert Gonzálvez Cardós, Antonio Navarro Borsi and Mariano Domingo. He also performed alongside the OSCyL with conductor Eliahu Inbal. In the field of chamber music, Javier regularly plays in chamber groups, among which the duo Primo Tempo with clarinetist Carlos Orobón and the duo with soprano Natalia Labourdette. 
 
Javier plays with a guitar made by Paulino Bernabé and he is sponsored by the Spanish Guitar Foundation and by Knobloch Strings.
