Javier Somoza


Completed his musical studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid (RCSMM) with José Luis Rodrigo. He also received classes with two other teachers: the orchestra director Jesús Burguera and the guitarist and musicologist Gerardo Arriaga. 
Among the numerous awards obtained throughout his career, those from the XXXI Concorso Internazionale “Fernando Sor” in Rome (2002), II Concorso Internazionale “Agustín Barrios” in Sardinia (2005), III International Guitar Competition “Luys Milan” ( Valencia, 2004) and the XXV Concorso Internazionale di chitarra “Mauro Giuliani” (Bari, Italy, 2004). 
He is currently Professor at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid (RCSMM) and is invited as a concert performer, lecturer and teacher to many international festivals and universities such as the Kunst Universität Graz (Austria), Folwang Universität der Kunste Essen (Germany), Daejeon International Guitar Competition (South Korea), Moscow International House of Music (Russia), Calcutta International Guitar Festival (India), Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali “Ricardo Franchi” (Siena, Italy), etc. 
He is a Doctor in Musicology, Artistic Director of the “Fernando Sor International Guitar Competition” and has been a member of the Editorial Board of Roseta, the musicological magazine published by the Spanish Guitar Society. He has recorded for RNE (Radio Clásica) and collaborated with the Sapanish National Orchestra within its annual programming.
