BRAHMS, Johannes
String quartet in A minor op. 51 no. 2
IV. Allegro non assai
Rainer Schmidt, professor
Cuarteto Quiroga
Aitor Hevia, violin I
Cibrán Sierra, violin II
Lander Etxebarría, viola
Helena Poggio, cello
In this second part of the masterclass, the quartet carry on working the different passages by voices under Schmidt's guidelines. The professor gives indications about the tempo and rhythm, articulation and upbeats, etc. Besides, Schmidt highlights the importance to analyse and feel the harmonies to get the sound and character most suitable for them.
Rainer Schmidt makes more comments about this work, always considering how to reflect the composer's intentions in the performance.
They think about the phrasing and bowing for a certain passage, and the professor corrects the rhythm in a specific moment to improve the metrical precision of the "tranquillo" part before the end.
