ENESCU, George
Concert piece for viola and piano
Lawrence Power, guest professor
Mario Carpintero Martín, student
Antonia Valente, accompanying pianist
After the student's performance, the Professor makes some general comments about the character, articulation, and phrasing to achieve the "drama" that this music requires.
They then begin to review the piece from the beginning in more detail, for which Lawrence Power makes recommendations primarily regarding bow and finger movements to achieve proper articulation, vibrato, the expressiveness of each moment, contact and pressure on the strings, etc.
Power suggests ways to technically practice certain passages and advises the student to do so at home in front of a mirror. He also suggests specific exercises and studies aimed at improving the performance of certain parts of the piece, for example, to improve bow strokes like "martelé." For the ending, he should pay attention to accents and play with a lot of energy. The professor demonstrates by playing and suggests how to use the bow with small hand movements.
