BACH, Johann Sebastian
Sonata for flute and harpsichord in B minor BWV 1030 (version for oboe and harpsichord in G minor)
II. Siciliano. Largo e dolce
Hansjörg Schellenberger, professor
Jesús Ernesto Torres Monge, student
Alina Artemyeva, accompanying pianist
The lecture starts with comments on tuning, phrasing and harmonical issues: the bigger the harmonic intensity, the more "forte" should be played. Schellenberger talks about the two versions of this sonata, for flute and for oboe, and their differences. He also insists on the importance of the harmony and the need to highlight the most relevant notes. In many moments during the masterclass, Professor Schelleberger plays to show the contrast between phrases, changes in the sound or even in the character, and dynamics.
