SCHUMANN, Robert
Märchenbilder for viola and piano op. 113
I. Nicht schnell
Antoine Tamestit, guest professor
Bella Chich, student
Juan Barahona, accompanying pianist
In this masterclass, they focus on the first piece of the cycle (Nicht schnell), with the accompaniment of Juan Barahona. Professor Tamestit comments that imagination is very important to play this kind of works. If we dedicate more time to feed these ideas it will be easier to create different sounds and phrasing and to improve all the musical aspects.
They work the phrasing under the emotional point of view and also talk about the original bowings of the score. The most important thing is to be able to show the sound we have inside.
Finally, Tamestit gives a last advice: when we are studying we should be our worst critic, but our best friend when we play for the audience.
