Arete Quartet


The Arete Quartet is a highly acclaimed Korean string quartet formed in September 2019. The group consists of violinists Jeon Chae-ann and Kim Dong-hwi, violist Jang Yoon-sun, and cellist Park Seong-hyeon. They made their debut at the Kumho Art Hall in September 2020 after unanimously passing the Kumho Art Hall Young Chamber Concert audition the previous year. Their performances have gained significant recognition, including being featured on Korea Broadcasting Service (KBS).

The quartet has achieved major international successes. In 2021, they won first prize at the prestigious Prague Spring International Music Competition, along with several special awards. Additionally, they have won other international accolades, including the 2023 International Mozart Competition in Salzburg and the 2024 Lyon International Chamber Music Competition.

Currently, the Arete Quartet is studying at the International Institute of Chamber Music of Madrid, and they continue to perform and collaborate internationally. They are mentored by prominent musicians, including Christoph Poppen and Jaeyoung Kim from the Novus Quartet
