Michael Lawrenson

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1994, in a musical family. He began to play the oboe at age of 11, studying with Ioanna Matei until finishing his Bachelor of Music at the University of Cape Town. In 2016, he moved to Copenhagen to further his education at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with Joakim Dam Thomsen and professor Max Artved. He moved to Helsinki in 2020 to study at the Sibelius Academy with Emmanuel Laville and Kyeong Ham. He has frequently played in professional orchestras in South Africa and Denmark, and has attended masterclasses by Alexei Ogrintchouk, Jean-Louis Capezzali and Christoph Hartmann, among others. He plays an oboe made by Dupin.
