Encounter of Santander
Born in Huelva, Spain, in 2000. Since 2024, she studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music's Clarinet Chair with professor Pascal Moraguès. She has been granted a scholarship by Fundación Albéniz.
She finished her clarinet studies in 2023 at the CSM Manuel Castillo in Seville with Antonio Salguero, obtaining honours. Furthermore, she has trained at the Barenboim-Said Foundation with Pablo Barragán since 2022 and has taken courses with Kilian Herold, Shirley Brill, Nicolas Baldeyrou, Enrique Pérez, José Joaquín Sánchez, Venancio Rius, and Luis Cámara.
As a soloist, she has won the first prize in the X Concurso de Jóvenes Intérpretes del Baezafest (2024) so she will perform as soloist with the orchestra in the next edition of the festival; first prize in the I Concurso de Repertorio con Pianista Acompañante del CSM Manuel Castillo (2023), the prize for the best wind performer in the 9th Concurso de Música de Cámara José Gámez (2023); the second prize in the Soloist Competition of the Javier Perianes Conservatory (2019); finalist in the Joven Orquesta Bohème de Madrid competition (2022) and semi-finalist in the Certamen Pedro Bote (2023).
As for chamber music, we highlight her fourth prize with his trio Diven in the IX Chamber Music Competition “José Gámez” (2023), her first prize in the XII contest of Roquetas de Mar “Música Viva”, her participation in a session of Musethica together with the international flutist Júlia Gallego (2024) and her performance in the X edition of the Baezafest Festival (2024).
She has also participated in events such as the San Telmo Concert Series in 2022 and 2023, the ‘Una apuesta por la música’ 18th Series (2022), the opera ‘El gato montés’ (2022) and 'Nabucco' (2024) with the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville in its internal band, the 8th Series of the Javier Perianes Conservatory and the UNIA, the 2nd International Chamber Music Festival of Isla Cristina (2018) and the concert for the Industry Day at the Gran Teatro de Huelva (2019).
María Castillo is a member of the Youth Orchestra of Andalusia, the Youth Orchestra of Cordoba and the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville Youth Orchestra.
As a student of the School, she is part of the Casa de la Moneda Scarlatti Quintet and of the Cosan and the Fundación Mutua Madrileña Ensembles.
