Zsolt Nagy and the School's Sinfonietta in May

- On Monday 6 May the Sinfonietta de la Escuela Reina Sofía will perform at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in a concert co-produced by the CNDM as part of its "Series 20/21" cycle, and with the collaboration of the Fundación Cisneros - Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros.

- The programme includes the world premiere of Written in blue by Fabián Panisello, a work commissioned by the Escuela Reina Sofía's programme "Música para una Escuela", and the Spanish premiere of Aurora by the recently deceased Hungarian composer Péter Eötvös.

- On Sunday 5 May, with a smaller programme, a didactic concert will be offered, in collaboration with the Madrid City Council's Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport, at the Centro Cultural Eduardo Úrculo in the district of Tetuán under the name "Listening to and understanding today's music" and presented by the composer and pedagogue Polo Vallejo.

Madrid, April 22nd, 2024.- The Reina Sofía School of Music presents yet another year, now thirteen, the concerts of the Sinfonietta, its orchestral ensemble focused on contemporary music, conducted on this occasion by the Hungarian composer and conductor Zsolt Nagy.

On Monday 6 May at 19.30 the Sinfonietta will hold a concert in the Auditorio 400 of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, co-produced by the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical (CNDM) as part of its series "Series 20/21", and thanks to the support of the Fundación Cisneros - Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros.

Zsolt Nagy will once again conduct the Sinfonietta de la Escuela Reina Sofía together with the double bass player of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Matthew McDonald, who will be in charge of the soloist part of the premiere piece in Spain, Aurora, written by Peter Eötvös for the curious double bass, accordion and string ensemble.

This piece will be accompanied by Robert Gerhard's Concertino in atonal language, the Corale (his Sequenza VIII) for solo violin by Luciano Berio, with the young violinist Sara Zeneli as soloist and a world premiere by the teacher, composer and conductor Fabián Panisello (Written in blue for trumpet and ensemble) whose soloist will be the trumpeter Manuel Blanco (Orquesta Nacional de España).

The Reina Sofía School of Music dedicates this concert to the memory of Maestro Péter Eötvös, advisor to the School's Sinfonietta since its creation.

Educational concert "Listening to and understanding today's music".

On Sunday 5 May at 7 p.m. the Sinfonietta will offer, in collaboration with the Madrid City Council's Department of Culture, Tourism and Sport, at the Centro Cultural Eduardo Úrculo (Tetuán), a didactic concert that aims to bring contemporary music closer to and help all audiences to understand it.

Polo Vallejo, composer and pedagogue, will present the concert and guide the audience, in conversation with the composer Fabián Panisello, the performers and the conductor, to listen to, understand and enjoy the music.

The Sinfonietta will be conducted by maestro Zsolt Nagy and the programme includes two works. Written in Blue, by Fabián Panisello and featuring trumpeter Manuel Blanco (Orquesta Nacional de España) as soloist, and Aurora, composed by Péter Eötvös, with double bassist Matthew McDonald (Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) as soloist.
